Meybelin Barrera

Associate Attorney

An attorney who transforms personal experiences into compassionate and committed advocacy.

Meybelin Barrera is an Associate Attorney at James Immigration Law. Her practice is distinguished by deep empathy, clear communication, and a firm commitment to empowering each client during their immigration process. Her personal story and calling to service are the driving force behind every case she handles.

Meybelin’s calling to immigration law stems from her own family history. Her mother immigrated to the United States as a teenager in search of a better future; her father was deported; and her uncle lost his life trying to reach the country. These experiences profoundly shaped her view of the immigration system and strengthened her determination to accompany and defend those who today walk similar paths.

For Meybelin, immigration law is not just a legal practice, but a deeply human mission: to honor the sacrifices that many families make for a safer future full of opportunities.

She speaks English and Spanish, which allows her to communicate closely and effectively with a diverse community.

Education and Experience

Meybelin earned her Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Barry University – Dwayne O. Andreas School of Law.

She is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court, Middle District of Florida and the U.S. District Court, Southern District of Florida.

She is a member of AILA, the Orange County Bar Association, and the Hispanic Bar Association of Central Florida.

Among her recognitions are the George C. Young Inn of Court Memorial Writing Award (2021) and the Sister Linda Bevilacqua Mission and Service Award.

Client Approach

Listen with compassion

Communicate with clarity

Empower with knowledge

Meybelin understands that the immigration process can be overwhelming and emotional. Therefore, her approach is based on explaining each stage clearly, maintaining constant communication, and ensuring that each client feels accompanied and secure when making decisions about their future.

Her goal is for people not only to understand their legal options, but also to regain confidence and peace of mind as they move forward in their process.

Her Greatest Motivation

Accompany with purpose and transform uncertainty into confidence

What most gratifies Meybelin is being able to guide and empower her clients throughout their immigration journey. Seeing the relief and joy they feel when achieving a positive outcome daily reaffirms her calling.

Working at James Immigration Law allows her to be part of a team aligned in purpose, where collaboration, compassion, and professionalism are shared values.

In a world of six billion people, it takes just one to change a life.

Beyond Legal Practice

Outside of work, Meybelin enjoys baking, traveling, and watching movies. Baking provides her with calm and creativity, traveling allows her to experience new cultures, and cinema is her favorite way to disconnect. She also enjoys officiating weddings outside of court, a special way to accompany people during key moments in their lives.

Something that surprises many people is that her first professional goal was to become a military social worker. She has collaborated with organizations such as Hope for the Warriors, IAVA, and the VA Harbor Health Care System in New York, in addition to completing an internship at the Harlem Vet Center and serving as Veterans Affairs Coordinator for ALPFA. These experiences reinforced her commitment to service, resilience, and advocacy for those who need it most.

She describes herself as compassionate, determined, and empowering.
