Associate Attorney
Mariana Alvarez is an Associate Attorney at James Immigration Law. Her practice combines human sensitivity, legal creativity, and absolute integrity to accompany immigrant individuals and families—especially the most vulnerable—with dignity, clarity, and hope.
Raised in a border region, Mariana developed from a young age a profound awareness of the realities and complexities of immigration. Nearly a decade ago, in response to family separation policies in the United States, she decided to focus her legal career exclusively on immigration law.
Since then, she has worked alongside nonprofit organizations and legal service providers, primarily supporting unaccompanied minors and individuals in detention. For Mariana, each case is a story that deserves to be heard and defended with respect.
She speaks English, Spanish, and French, which allows her to create genuine connections and provide support in the language in which each client feels most comfortable.
Mariana earned her bachelor’s degree in English and Psychology, with a minor in Spanish, from Texas Tech University, and subsequently her Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Texas Tech School of Law.
She is a member of AILA (American Immigration Lawyers Association) and serves on the State Bar of Texas – Poverty Law Section Council, where she actively contributes to strengthening access to justice.

Mariana approaches each case with a genuine desire to understand the complete story of the person before her. Her goal is for every client to feel seen, heard, and supported, knowing they are not alone in the process.
Her practice is guided by complete honesty, legal creativity, and the conviction that hope is also a powerful tool. Mariana firmly believes in providing clear and realistic information so that each person can make informed decisions about their future.
Accompany with hope and remind people that no one is alone
What inspires Mariana most is the possibility of giving hope: reminding each person that their story matters and that someone is fighting for them to be treated with dignity.
Accompanying those going through difficult immigration processes and being a constant, human, and committed presence is what gives meaning to her daily work.
Every person deserves to be heard with respect and defended with integrity, because hope is also part of the strategy.
Outside of work, Mariana enjoys glamping, reading, and cooking. She is also a musician: she can play five instruments—clarinet, piano, violin, guitar, and drums—with the violin being the first she learned thanks to her mother’s encouragement.
She describes herself as fun, authentic, and honest.
